In the spring of 2019, Regina lived in an extended-stay motel with her mother, who battled drug addiction. Luckily, her aunt and uncle came to the rescue and welcomed her into their home.
"I was just another statistic...an object you throw to the curb."
There, she found the love, structure, and stability she desperately needed. That summer, Regina discovered the Girls Inc. Eureka! STEM program. In the fall, she joined Girls Inc. at her middle school. Her life and her future were changing.
"At Girls Inc., I found a safe and supportive environment around other girls
who had their own challenges and stories."
In August 2019, Regina shared her story with more than 1,200 business and community leaders at the United Way Campaign Kickoff. Their rapt silence exploded into a standing ovation when she finished, and she now is in demand as a speaker across Columbus.
"I want others who may be in the same predicament to know this program
has meant the world to me."
